This article will teach you how to use Stampede's new campaign segments, frequently asked questions about campaign segmenting and when best to use these segments for targeted advertising.
Frequently Asked Questions:
What is campaign segmentation used for?
Campaign segmentation allows you to target people who have/ haven't already been the target of a campaign. For example, I have a segment with 100 customers, 90 of those customers open the campaign but 10 customers haven't. You can use campaign segments to target the 10 people who have missed your campaign the first time. Targeting all 100 people again may cause the 90 customers who have already viewed your campaign to opt out of your marketing, or may view your marketing as spam. Targeting only the people who have missed your campaign allows you to maximise the returns and interactions on your campaigning, allowing for more effective and targeted advertising.
What is a Campaign ID?
A campaign ID is the a code in your URL that is used to identify the campaign you are referring to. In the example below, you can see the URL of a sending report for a campaign. This is where you will find your campaign ID, (the second long string of numbers and letters, for the purpose of demonstration, this code is bold)

How long before I should use this segment?
We recommend waiting 48 - 72 hours after the campaign has been sent before using a campaign segment, this allows the campaign to reach it's maximum effect and will garner better numbers for you to target.
Why target people who have already seen a campaign?
Sometimes people will view a campaign that expects an action. For example, I have just sent a campaign advertising a new event with a link that will take the customer to a booking. I can then create a segment for those people who opened the campaign but didn't click the link, encouraging more people to click the link and book.
Campaign Ideas and how to create campaign segments:
Segment for second campaign for people who haven't opened the first campaign
In this scenario, I have sent out a campaign, but not all targeted customers viewed the campaign, below is a screenshot of the segment I have created to demonstrate how to target users who haven't viewed my campaign yet. Please note that all fields use the AND function, so field 1 AND field 2 need to be true for them to be targeted.
Below is the campaign ID of the previous campaign which allows us to target the segment used to target that campaign.
Below is the "Number of email opens" which means the number of times a customer has opened the email (which is attached using the campaign ID) equal to zero, which means that if a customer hasn't opened the campaign, they are added to the segment.
Second campaign for those who opened the campaign but didn't click link
In this scenario, I have sent a campaign with a link to book a table at my venue for a special event. Some customers opened the campaign, but didn't click on the link. Below are instructions on how I targeted those customers that didn't click the link. Please note that all fields use the AND function, so field 1 AND field 2 AND field 3 need to be true for them to be targeted.
Below is the campaign ID of the previous campaign which allows us to target the segment used to target that campaign.
Below is the "Number of email opens" which means the number of times a customer has opened the email (which is attached using the campaign ID) not equal to zero, which means that if a customer has opened the campaign (regardless of the number of times they have opened it), they are added to the segment.
Below is the "Number of email clicks" which means the number of times a customer has clicked a link in the email the email (which is attached using the campaign ID) equal to zero, which means that if a customer has not clicked the link in the campaign, they are added to the segment.
Campaign for customers who opened a campaign but didn't go back to the venue
In this scenario, I have sent a campaign inviting people back to my campaign, some customers have opened the campaign, but haven't been into the venue. Below are instructions on how to target those customers.
Below is the "Last seen at venue" option, which filters when the last time someone was in the venue. As shown below Last seen at venue more than week means if a customer hasn't been seen in the venue for over a week, they are added to the segment.
