In this article, you’ll learn how to upload customer data into Stampede using a CSV file. We’ll walk you through each step of the process from selecting your file and mapping customer fields, to applying marketing tags and choosing the right data source. You’ll also learn how Stampede prevents duplicate records and how opt-in preferences are affected during upload. This guide is perfect for importing GDPR-compliant data for marketing, reporting, or segmentation purposes.
The CSV uploader in Stampede allows you to seamlessly bring in customer data from other sources. Whether you're importing a competition list, email contacts, or a historical database, the uploader ensures your records remain GDPR-compliant and avoids creating duplicate entries.
You can also apply tags during the upload process, making it easy to create custom segments later. For example, tagging a list as “Contest Winners 2023” allows for quick targeting in future marketing or reporting campaigns.
⚠️ Important: If you upload contacts via CSV, their opt-in status will be reset. Anyone previously opted out will be marked as opted in again.
1.Select Marketing from the navigation bar.
2. Click on Segments under the Data section.
3. Next, select the Import option.
4. You can drag and drop or upload the file you wish to import (as shown below). Note: This must be in .csv format.
5. Once uploaded, the file processing will start to appear.
Below the uploader, you'll find a log of all uploaded files and their related details.
6. After uploading, check the customer attributes section to ensure all fields correspond to the correct columns in your spreadsheet.
The upload manager will detect the headers and assign the presumed correct values based on one of the records, so please double-check to ensure each record is assigned the right data type.
Note: If you prefer not to include a certain data type or don’t have one available, you can select ignore.
Next, select the Stampede attributes for your data:
- Data Source (Choose the appropriate source of data, for example, if it's from a bookings list, select "Booking", or for transactions, choose "Online order". For a general database import, select "Import")
- Venue (The venue to which this data will be added)
- Tags (Automatically apply marketing segment tags to this data)
Once you're finished, you'll see how many customers will be uploaded at the bottom left. Just hit Upload, and your data will be uploaded!
