Apple devices use a built-in login assistant instead of a normal web browser, so the Stampede portal will not appear if the network blocks Apple’s connection-check domains or interferes with HTTPS. Missing walled garden entries, DNS rewriting, SSL inspection, or controller settings can all prevent the splash page from loading. Ensuring Apple domains are allowed and disabling inspection usually restores normal captive portal behaviour for all guest devices on the network to function correctly everywhere.
Apple devices do not open the Wi-Fi login page in a browser. They use a built-in system called Captive Network Assistant (CNA).
If the Stampede splash page does not appear, Apple is being blocked by the network.
Common causes include:
captive.apple.com not in the Walled Garden
DNS rewriting or intercepting Apple’s connection-check URLs
SSL inspection or HTTPS filtering enabled
Apple CNA disabled on the controller
Network forcing 5 GHz-only without CNA allowance
Guest SSID mixed with enterprise authentication
To fix this:
Add Apple domains to the Walled Garden:
captive.apple.com
appleid.apple.com
Disable SSL inspection or deep packet inspection on the guest network
Allow the guest SSID to broadcast normally
Ensure the controller is not blocking HTTP/HTTPS redirection
Once these items are corrected, the Stampede portal will load as expected on Apple devices.
