In this article, you'll learn how to configure the advanced settings of a booking type in Stampede.
Once you've created your booking type, you can fine-tune how it behaves—setting things like time restrictions, default durations, party size limits, table assignments, and more. These settings help ensure your bookings run smoothly while matching your venue’s operations and availability.
1. Open a Booking Type to Configure
From the Booking Types page, click the pencil icon next to the booking type you'd like to configure. This will open the full settings panel for that booking type.
2. Booking Type Details (Top of the Panel)
- Booking Type Name – Enter the name of your booking type (e.g. Drinks)
- Pick Emoji – Choose an emoji to visually represent this type (e.g. 🍸)
- Type Colour – Select a colour to help distinguish this booking type in your planner
3. Guest Rules & Display
- Minimum Party Size – Smallest group size allowed
- Maximum Party Size – Largest group size allowed
- Description – Add a short sentence that appears under the booking type on the public booking widget (e.g. “Drinks Only 5pm to 7pm”)
- Buffer – Set a buffer time between bookings for this type
4. Online Booking Preferences
- Allow Online Amendments – Toggle on to let guests update their booking themselves
- Same Day Bookings – Allow or restrict bookings made on the same day
- Same Day Booking Message – Message shown to guests if same-day bookings are disabled
- Start Time Buffer – Set how soon before arrival guests can make a booking (e.g. 120 minutes)
- Amendment Time Buffer – Define how close to the booking time guests can make edits
- Amendment Not Possible Message – Custom message displayed when a guest tries to amend too close to the start time
5. Cover Settings & Table Assignments
- Effect Covers – Tick if this booking type should affect the daily cover count
- Override – Enable this to manually assign specific tables or combinations
- Tables – Select which tables this booking type can use
- Combinations – Choose which table combinations are valid for this booking type
6. Payments & Policies
- Cancellation Charges – Enable and configure charges for cancellations
- Deposit Charges – Require a deposit when booking
7. Advanced Options
- Special Party Size Durations – Set unique durations per party size
- Information – Add guest-facing information that displays during the booking process
- Does This Type Allow Dogs? – Allow guests to indicate how many dogs they'll bring
- Ask Guest for Room Number – Request a room number if applicable (e.g. hotel or resort)
8. Service Hours
Service Hours control when this booking type is available and also determine the visible timeframe in your Day Planner.
It’s important to note that Service Hours work in combination with your Default Duration. If your booking type has a 2-hour default duration, you’ll need to extend your service hours to allow that full booking window to be available.
For example:
If you want the last customer booking to be at 8pm, and the default duration is 2 hours, your service hours should be set until 10pm.
Why? Because a guest booking at 8pm needs that full 2-hour slot to be available for the system to show it as an option.
Setting your service hours too tight will prevent guests from seeing later time slots and may cause confusion if they can't book when expected.
9. Daily Cover Limits
Set your maximum daily covers for set days/times to control the pressure on the kitchen.
For example, on a weekday you may not have as much staff in the kitchen so your maximum covers may be a bit less compared to a weekend.
💡 Pro Tip:
Use Description, Service Hours, and Cover Limits together to shape how guests book during busy or specific time windows perfect for things like Drinks Only or Late-Night sessions.
